What is Xarelto

Xarelto is an anticoagulant sometimes referred to as a blood thinner. By thinning a person’s blood it helps prevent blood clots that can cause Deep Vein Thombosis (DVT), Strokes, or Pulmonary embolism (PE). Xarelto was marketing itself as being a safer and easier way to thin a person’s blood than the traditional Warfarin sodium (Coumadin®, Jantoven®). Its major claim was that unlike Warfin Sodium that requires monthly blood tests, Xarelto does not require that.

Xarelto withheld important information

However, in all the marketing of the product, the makers of Xarelto withheld important information from both the doctors prescribing it and patients taking it. They withheld that there is no drug, agent, or means to reverse the anticoagulation effects of Xarelto, and that such irreversibility could have permanently disabling, life-threatening and fatal consequences. Furthermore, instead of putting money towards additional testing and clinical trials, the makers of Xarelto chose not to.
